BAD NEWS...

Posted: 08/30/2010

Nick regrets to inform everyone that its reached that time again. Once he schedules the last 2 people on his waiting list, he is no longer taking new projects for immediate scheduling. All future projects will have to go on his waiting or cancellation list until he completes some of his current projects.
Based on his current work load, he will not be starting any large projects (half sleeves, sleeves, socks, or back pieces) added to his WAITING list after today until roughly April next year.
Smaller projects will go on a separate CANCELLATION list, for a call back in the event of a cancellation in his current schedule. If you are unable to come in when Nick calls you for a cancellation, this does NOT affect your spot on the list. You will be called in the order you were added to the list, every time Nick has a cancellation to find a replacement tattoo.
Nick encourages anyone wanting future work to go ahead to get on the lists, because by the time you ARE ready he will be calling people from those lists, and everyone on those lists will get called IN ORDER they were added to the list at that time.
Many times people wait until when Nick has said he will be taking new tattoos to add their name to the list for a large project.. THIS IS A MISTAKE. There will most likely ALWAYS be a wait. The question is how long that wait will be. If you add your name soon, you will probably be getting tattooed around April or May. If you wait until April to add your name to the list, you will most likely be getting tattooed around August or September next year.
SO, TO RECAP,
If you want to get a LARGE project (half sleeves, sleeves, socks, or back pieces) get on the waiting list now, and Nick will call you when a slot opens up for rotation into the schedule.
If you want a SMALL, single sitting tattoo, get on the cancellation list for a call back when Nick has a spontaneous opening due to cancellations.
And if you just can not wait, please consider one Black Hive Tattoos other artists, or ask for a recommendation from Nick or Chance. The artists at Black Hive have many friends that are excellent tattoo artists all over Jacksonville, and we would be happy to steer you towards the right guy for the job you have in mind.

WE APPRECIATE THE THOUGHT, BUT...

Posted: 08/25/2010

Apparently, some clients of Black Hive have taken it upon themselves to start tagging other tattoo shops in Jacksonville with our stickers.
While we appreciate the sentiment behind your actions, we here at Black Hive would like everyone to just live and let live. We know that these other shops may not be your cup of tea, but we are sure that everyone that tattoos will rise or fall on their own without any aggravation from us or our clientele.
The fact is, we do not consider ANY shop in Riverside or the greater Jacksonville area to be our competition. The term, is just not relevant to us anymore. We do what we do, and we will leave the rest to those clients that are not interested in getting the best they can from us, or any of the fine artists we know all over the city.
WE would not appreciate someone tagging our building or stickering our door, so please do not engage in direct attacks on anyones shop.
If you feel like putting them on your own car, on street signs, trash cans, whatever else, we are fine with that. Those instances are between you and the cops! Hahaha! However, straight fucking with other shops is really not necessary.
Again, thanks for the thought, but rather than using stickers to badger people that are only going to assume we had something to do with it, peel off the sticker, waste them anyway, and ultimately foster hard feelings towards our shop by people that would otherwise have no reason to be concerned with us at all, use your words to convince your friends to come see us, wear our tshirts when you go out, and put our stickers on your cars to spread the word about Black Hive Tattoo.

SUMMER TIME BLUES....

Posted: 06/10/2010

Ok, three times this week we have had to reschedule people because of sunburnt skin.
Sun block everybody! You want to get tattooed, and we want to do your tattoos, but please, please, PLEASE use sunblock without fail on any body part you are scheduled to get tattooed for AT LEAST the week before your appointment.
Enjoy the summer everybody, but protect that skin!

WHY BLACK HIVE?

Posted: 05/02/2010

A lot of people have been asking me, Nick, why I named the shop Black Hive. All right, here goes:
Black is generally the base color most tattoos and tattooers work with. As far as the Hive part, I like the imagery of stinging insects. Wasps, and bees and hornets are really amazing beautiful little creatures when you get a close look at them, but they hurt like hell. With tattoos you have to deal with the pain to appreciate the beauty.
Also, hive insects tend to work towards a common goal, and my hope is to collect tattoo artists that all want to produce great tattoos consistently. A shop that cares more about the work than the lifestyle.
Well, there it is hope it explains it for everyone!
