Open note to all clients with older unfinished pieces:
Due to the increasing demands on my time as a shop owner and a full time tattoo artist, I will no longer be making periodic calls to check in if you schedule to finish your work.
PLEASE do NOT think this is a sour post, I just wanted to give all of you a heads up that because there are even more demands on my time than before I opened Black Hive, I may not be as attentive to those who haven’t seen me in a while. I apologize in advance, but lately it seems like if it’s not right in front of me, it can slip by my notice for a good long while.
So, when you’re ready to finish something you have in progress, it will probably be on you to contact me.
That being said, keep 3 things in mind:
1. If I started a piece at one of my old rates, it will be finished at THAT hourly rate. Not my current hourly rate.
2. My current hourly rate of $200 an hour does not apply across the board. For a fuller explanation, refer to the “hourly rates” post on the “shop info” page here on blackhivetattoo.com>>> www.blackhivetattoo.com/shop-info/
3.Though I am consistently very booked up, I will make a special effort to fit in any piece over 2 years old that needs to be wrapped up. So, if you want to get something worked on, but maybe you’re not in a HUGE rush, call me so I can get you in, or least add you to my “cancellation” list. At least that way I’ll have a list of people that I can refer to when I have random openings that I need to fill. You know, like right in front of me. Lol!
Thanks to all of you that took the time to read this post, and I look forward to finishing up all my unfinished work in the future.

Hoping to add to the Hive…

Any tattoo artists out there looking to make a move up in tattooing? We are currently looking for potential future hires at Black Hive. There are certain criteria to be considered so read ALL of this post. If you cannot follow instructions, you will immediately be removed from the consideration process.

We are not ready for an immediate hire, but we have an available station we are looking to fill in the near future, and are in the process of setting up another station for an additional future artist.

While we do walk-ins, Black Hive is primarily a custom, appointment based studio. We are looking for artists who have a client base that they want to expand, while gaining opportunities, an above average working environment, and flexibility for themselves.

We are trying to bring in people that want to be part of a community of artists that want to be the best they can possibly be. You need to be ready for open dialogue and differing opinions about style, composition, color palette and application. You have to be open to compromise AND sometimes be comfortable agreeing to disagree. We encourage an individuals approach to tattooing while keeping an open mind to other ideas.

Black Hive offers limited public hours our artists are required to work with unlimited access for our artists to tattoo any days of the week they prefer. That schedule is currently 1-8, Tuesday through Saturday. All other new hire details will be worked out in person on a person-to-person basis before anyone is hired on, to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.

To avoid conflict with your current work situation, if you submit a resume, no current employer will be contacted until you become a viable candidate for new hire. Even then, we would clear any communication with you before making ANY contact with your current employer.

Here are the criteria for submitting a resume. Read carefully!

1) A minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience.

2)EMAIL all your info or any questions to blackhivetattoo@gmail.com

3) Include all personal information: years tattooing, contact phone number, email, and a current mailing address.

4) Work history for your whole career tattooing, back to and including who you apprenticed under. Include contact numbers, email addresses, and websites for the shops you have worked.

5) A brief description of your general future career goals, as well as what you hope to get from working specifically at Black Hive Tattoo.

6) 20 high resolution photos of your most current tattoos. Our concern is NOT size or subject matter, just the quality of the tattooing itself.

7) 10 photos of your most recent unused drawings for tattoos.

Finally, DO NOT COME TO THE SHOP! Anyone who drops by the shop unscheduled, sends any unsolicited info through any social media site (Facebook, Instagram, etc), and/or texts or calls any current Black Hive employee regarding the hire process will be automatically discarded.

You WILL get a confirmation email that we received your resume. You will NOT be contacted again until we are ready to interview potential coworkers in person.

After all, if you can’t be bothered to read and follow the instructions in this post, how can we expect you to have the patience to do the best tattoo you can?

The embroidered hoodies went over really well for the Christmas rush, but some of you missed out on all the emails and posts. While we are no longer offering them through the shop, you CAN order them directly from our man Steve at Monograms and more here in town. While we limited our run to black zip ups with a limited number of embroidery color options, Steve can give you more options as far as hoodie AND embroidery color, and pull overs on request.

So, if you missed out, but you’ve seen these awesome hoodies and want one, contact Steve at 904-7391432 and order your very own! Because most people would be ordering one or two at a time, they will be $70 plus tax, prepay only.

With the new year, Black Hive is adding a new feature for all of their clients that want to collect pieces from more than one person. Beginning in February, we will be having guest artists coming in from time to time. These artists will have VERY limited spaces, so be sure to contact them right away if you want to get tattooed while they’re here. Also, if there is an artist you want to get tattooed by, LET THEM KNOW. Any artist will be happy to travel if they feel like they have a few people to come get tattooed and they have a nice shop to work out of.

While we will most certainly post each guest artist on this blog and on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/Black-Hive-Tattoo/109839385755621) to get the earliest info on any upcoming guest artists, sign up for our newsletter on blackhivetattoo.com’s homepage by clicking the “NEWSLETTER” tab and filling out your info. Afterwards, don’t forget to check your email inbox for the confirmation email to get started receiving our newsletter.

Our first 2 guest artists will be Jeff Ensminger who has been traveling far and wide the last few years, and Pooka from Miami.

Jeff Ensminger is a remarkably versatile artist who has been traveling the country doing some pretty amazing stuff for a few years. He will be in town February 20-27. WELCOME TO THE NEW SITE!

Now that the new site is up, there are some new, improved features you need to know about:

1. Each artist will now have multiple galleries, including one for art. Each one will be kept updated, which means that old content will be eventually rotated off the site. To see our full catalogue of tattoos, past and present, click on our flickr link in the lefthand column and browse to your heart’s content!

2.We have changed the actual browsing of each photo. While you will still have to close the gallery window to see another, you can now scroll to any picture before and after the one you’re viewing by clicking the next and previous tabs. No more closing the window to view every photo!

3.While the Shop Info tab will give you a shop overview, if you want the inside track on shop goings on, click on the Newsletter tab to enter your email address and early notifications about shop events and sneak peeks of shop art before it posts to the shop.

4.Finally, almost everything on the site is clickable. contact info, facebook, addresses, map features, everything! Even the cropped pictures you’ll sometimes see in these blogs will expand to show the full sized image. For an example, click the image above and check it out!

So, take some time to familiarize yourself with the new site and check back for updates frequently!
